Southeast Rehab Hosts Women’s History Month Event With Local Business Owners
NORTH EASTON, M.A. — Residents and staff at Southeast Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in North Easton, Massachusetts listened to the stories of three women business owners from the Greater Boston area Monday.
To celebrate Women’s History Month, Lauren Musgrove, an 8-time Emmy award-winning filmmaker, Margaret Cresta, the Founder/CEO of the SWEAT ENERGY app, and T. Nicole Allen, a real estate agent and minister, were invited to the center to present to residents.
“I hope the residents are reminded that they’ve done so much for the generations to come including mine. Also to continue to work on themselves and find ways to smile and be happy,” Cresta said. “[Women’s History Month is] a reminder of how important it is to advocate for the people next to you… it also reminds you why we are where we are today and it’s because of the brave women that came before us.”
Athena’s Regional Food Service Director Jaylene Ashdown echoed those sentiments, adding the month is a time to reflect on women’s past and their goals in the future. Glenn Comeau, Regional Food Service Director with Athena, said the month means a lot to him, having four older sisters and watching them grow up to become successful in their lives. A father himself, he said he passed on to them what he learned from his siblings. He said he was excited to serve and prepare food for the guest speakers, and called the presentations “uplifting” and “important.”
“Women have overcome great obstacles,” T. Nicole Allen said. “I hope that they receive strength today. I hope that they are encouraged.”
Diamond Boone, Athena’s Director of Therapeutic Recreation for Massachusetts and Rhode Island, said the residents found the speeches “moving” as they were able to hear from young, successful women entrepreneurs. She said, “The ladies in the facility have really paved the way for our generation. It was a great way to show acknowledgment and appreciation.”
